After graduating from high school in the Northern Rivers of New South Wales, Bronson Atkin received a position to study with the National Institute of Dramatic Arts Brisbane based Young Actors Studio in 2009. Whilst undergoing training in the dramatic arts, Atkin also commenced studies in graphic design with North Coast TAFE. The grounding in both studies of acting and graphic design developed a unique, creative style to the emerging talents work. This began to reflect in the progression of accolades Bronson Atkin has received over the past 5 years.
On his acceptance into a Bachelor of Design at Whitehouse Institute of Design, Sydney in 2011 Atkin continued to develop his unique design aesthetic in the study of fashion design. Early into the designers studies at Whitehouse, Atkin won Henry Roths Little Black Dress competition having three dress designs placed into production for retail at $120-$300 under Henry Roths label. The designer was then selected in 2012 to begin construction of a capsule collection Ascension to show at MBFW China as a finalist of the Hempel International Fashion Design Awards in Beijing. Bronson Atkin for his graduate collection Hold developed a tailored menswear collection that draws a sensual tailored silhouette that embraces the male figure, admiring male beauty by gently sculpting the form. Atkins design work is a delicate examination of the form and the relation it has with the cloth the garment is constructed in. Atkins design aesthetic has become notable for its acknowledgement of the traditional aspects of tailoring while contemporising traditional conventions by subtle re-proportioning, re- positioning and sculpting the structure of the garment to the body. Upon presenting Hold the emerging fashion designer received on behalf of Vogue Australia the Emirates Italian Scholarship to the Accademia Italiana in Florence, Italy, and the opportunity of a Vogue experience in Milan. |
